Surrealists first played the game, ‘Exquisite Corpse’, at Breton’s house in Montparnasse, 54 rue du Château (no longer existing). Besides himself, Breton mentions Marcel Duhamel, Jacque Prévert, Yves Tanguy and Benjamin Péret as original participants. Henry Miller often played the game to pass time in French cafés during the 1930s.

In creating this release we made up our own rules:

Step 1: We each contributed (4) 10min sound files, files 1-4.
Step 2: Al mixes his own file 1, Tom’s file 1 and Walter’s file 1. The trio
Step 3: Al mixes his own file 2, Tom’s file 2 and Walter’s file 2. Then Al adds a fourth track, the first quartet.
Step 4: Al mixes his own file 3, Tom’s file 3 and Walter’s file 3. Then sends the result to Tom, who adds a fourth track, the second quartet.
Step 5: Al mixes his own file 4, Tom’s file 4 and Walter’s file 4. Then sends the result to Walter, who adds a fourth track, the third quartet.
